Roofing in Suffolk

We came into Suffolk from Norfolk, over the Waveney, and we are honest about what that means. We are strongest in the west and the north of the county, around Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket and along the border where Diss and Thetford already put us within a few miles of Suffolk anyway. Further east and south we still come out, and it is worth ringing to check rather than assuming either way.

Suffolk does not have one roof. The west and the south are clay country and the older property is plain tile and Suffolk red, steeply pitched because that is what a small tile needs to shed water. Go north and east towards the coast and pantile takes over, laid at a shallower pitch, and the exposure changes with it. The mistake we see most often is a repair specified for one half of the county carried out in the other, most commonly a shallow pantile detail put onto a roof that was built steep for tile, and it will leak in the first driven rain no matter how well it is laid.
